Betty Lou was born on March 21, 1939 in Beech Bluff, TN to the late John Edgar Holt and Dovie Elizabeth Fowler Holt. She graduated from Beech Bluff High School in 1957. She married Earl Dean Thompson in 1954. She worked for Frankland's Furniture for 18 years, West Tennessee Bone and Joint Clinic for 18 years, and most recently with Veldon "Doc" Reedy at Family Enrichment Center.
Betty Lou had a true zest for life. She loved her family, cooking, gardening and being at church. She was an all-around beautiful person, inside and out. She has been a member of Maple Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church since 1949 and was ordained as an elder in 1989.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Earl Dean Thompson; two daughters, Kim Thompson McFarland (David) of Jackson and Judy Thompson McQuillen (Tim) of Jackson; her devoted sister, Martha Jane Williams of Beech Bluff, TN; two grandsons, Jonathan Young and Holt McFarland, both of Jackson; and a host of cousins.
Funeral services for Betty Lou will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 3 p.m., at Maple Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Beech Bluff, with Bro. Jerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Springs Cemetery.
Active Casketbearers to serve will be Marty Williams, Keith Williams, Billy White, Clois Duke, Robert Fowler, and Mike Fowler.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, August 29, 2015 from 5-7 p.m., at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, and again on Sunday from 1:30 until the funeral hour at 3 p.m., at Maple Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Maple Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church or to the charity of the donor's choice .
