Born on July 5, 1956, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Barry was the cherished son of Ray and Nina Young and spent his childhood in the close-knit Bemis community. A proud graduate of South Side High School in 1974, Barry pursued his passion for music by majoring in music and percussion at Memphis State University, where he was an integral member of the drumline in the university’s marching band. During those years, he traveled extensively as a professional touring musician, sharing his talent with audiences across the country.
In the mid-1980s, Barry returned to Jackson and began a career with Consolidated Aluminum Corporation (Conalco). At the same time, he attended Jackson State Community College, where he earned a degree in accounting. It was at Conalco that he met the love of his life, Ramona Cox. The two married on November 29, 1986, embarking on a marriage that would span 37 years filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family.
A lifelong fan of all sports, Barry had a special devotion to University of Memphis football and basketball, often cheering on the Tigers with enthusiasm.
Above all, he took immense pride in supporting his son, Ryan, in all of his musical endeavors, embodying the spirit of a devoted and encouraging father.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Cox Young; his two sons, Ryan Young and Andrew Young (Leslie); grandchildren, Cooper, Tyler, and Mason Young; and his sister, Peggy Young Riley (Rusty).
