He was preceded in death by his father Eldray Griffin. Tommy worked in the automotive industry since graduating high school. For the last 29 years he worked at LKQ in Jackson where he was highly regarded. He married the love of his life, Shelba, in 1984. They raised their children in the Byram/Terry area.
Tommy was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tending to the pond and wildlife on the farm. Some of his favorite past times included riding back roads in the country with Shelba, grilling out with family, taking his grandchildren for rides on the side-by-side, and driving his John Deere tractor. His greatest joy was spending Saturday evenings fishing with his family down at the pond.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shelba Griffin; his daughter Lindsay (Hayes) O’Reilly of Ebenezer; son T.J. Griffin of Madison; step-daughter Christi (Taylor) Scharck of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Anna Duke, Nolan Hayes (Five) O’Reilly V, Campbell Griffin, Southern O’Reilly, Taylor Scharck Jr., Ford Scharck, Sadie Scharck and Gunnar Scharck; mother, Dorothy Griffin of Byram, sisters Linda Blackwell of Clinton and Sandi (Rick) Cook of Clinton.
Tommy was a son, a husband, a father, a brother, and friend. He was an ordinary man but an extraordinary person in the lives to those who knew him. As we gather to reflect upon his life, let us be reminded of the profound lessons he taught us through his unwavering faith, humility, and gratitude.
