Mary Yonkers Dockery, age 68, went home to be with her Lord on November 25, 2017. Mary was born in Clinton, Mississippi in 1949 to Irving and Florence Yonkers. She became a believer at the young age of three and throughout her life grew in her love, devotion, knowledge, and service to her Lord. She graduated from Clinton High School and Mississippi College. While in college, she served as a counselor at Lake Forest Ranch in the summers. She taught for several decades in the Hinds County and Jackson Public Schools. Throughout her life, Mary worked with her father in Southland Ministries, and she worked with Dr. and Mrs. W.S. Beardshaw in the Raymond Good News Bible Club and later became its Director. She had a compassion for others to know Christ and grow in His Word. As an outgrowth of her love for the Lord, she responded to the needs of others. She was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi where she met a young man named David T. Dockery, III. They, through their love for the Lord and each other, recognized God had brought them together. They became one in marriage in 1982. They were married for 35 loving years at the time of Mary's death. Mary and David became members of Pocahontas Baptist Church. Mary served her Lord in various positions and supported David in his leadership responsibilities. Mary loved her church and prayed earnestly for the church, its members, and pastors. Mary was deeply loved by her family...her husband, David, brothers Robert (Bob) and Charles, sisters Ida and Terrell, and their families. She was such a gracious individual and always loved us through difficult circumstances, encouraging us to new heights and forgiving us when needed. In our devastation and grief, we are uplifted because we know she is with her Lord. We as believers know this world is not our home; we're just a passin' through. We thank God for Mary's life and the example she was and will continue to be as we remember her. Her life spoke for her what she can now not say. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:00 pm with service following at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Pocahontas Baptist Church, 4200 Kickapoo Rd. north of Clinton, Mississippi. Burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
