Jane Stallings Holland passed away peacefully in her home in Houston, Texas May 9. She was born February 15, 1934, in Jackson, MS, to the late James Preston Stallings and Bonnie McElroy Stallings. She graduated from Tupelo High School and attended Millsaps College, after which she began a long life of hard work that did not end until she moved to Houston in 2013.
Other than her family and friends, tennis was Jane’s great love. After her children were out of the house, she rekindled her love for the game she played as a teenager, and advanced rapidly to great success. She captained several teams that won Mississippi and Southern Sectional championships. In 2003 she captained and played on a senior team that reached the National Finals. In 2012, Jane’s success and dedication to the game she loved was recognized by her induction into the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jackson David "Pete" Holland. She is survived by her children, David Preston Holland of Atlanta, GA, and Peter Clay Holland of Houston, TX; her sister Jo Anne Stallings Harris of Tupelo, MS; Clay’s wife Shannon Silman Holland; her grandchildren, Jackson David Holland II, Emma Campbell Holland, and Andrew Silman Holland, all of Houston; as well as her beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS, 39209, Saturday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m.
