We are so sorry for the loss of such a great guy   . He will be missed at his earthly home but oh the joy he is experiencing in his heavenly home right now!  Hal was so friendly with such a sweet spirit. We enjoyed many good times on our trip with our buoys playing ball and our girls cheering them!  I kept an endless supply of BC a Powders just for Hal and Ronnie

What a special place this man and this entire family hold in my heart. Always loved the hugs I would get everytime I saw him and how he would ask how his other daughter had been. He was truly one of a kind... What you saw was what you got! He loved his friends and family dearly and I for one will truly miss him. Words can't express the hurt I feel for my dear friend Teri and the family. I love yall!

There is nothing that can be said to heal the pain you are feeling. Memories are wonderful, and eventually they help you cope with a loss. But this loss is monumental. This was a person that every father, husband, and man should strive to be, and he did it without effort. I pray for you, Debra, Teri, and Eric. I also realize that you know you were all so fortunate to have such a great person to be a part of your lives. I know you will carry on that tradition of family closeness that most people never get to experience. I'm proud to say I knew the man, and I've seen the values he instilled in his son, who is also a wonderful father and husband, first hand. My wife and I love you all, and we pray for you daily.

I met the Armstrong family when I was about 10 years old at Alta Woods Baptist Church. I remember as a little girl seeing Deborah and wanting to grow up and be beautiful like her. And I remember thinking I wanted to marry someone who adored me as much as he loved her. As a teenager I spent many days at the Armstrong house and had the pleasure of getting to know them all and loving each of them like my own family. What I remember most was the incredible love in that house. There was always laughter. I remember Hal sitting in his chair in the living room and watching his face light up every single time Deborah walked into the room. I remember him picking on Teri and making her giggle with that quiet mischievous twinkle that he had just for her. I remember the pride in his face when he looked at Eric knowing his son was growing into a strong family man like himself. He loved his family. He never one time took for granted a single moment he had with them. And no matter what he was doing he always had time to stop if any one of them called his name. Hal was kind and handsome and the kind of man I pray my sons will become. He was quiet and soft-spoken but strong and hilarious and had a knack for saying little...but always the perfect thing to make someone smile at just the right time. I am thankful for having known this family and am a better person for having seen firsthand what marriage and family is all about. I know none of you will ever be the same, but I pray you all find comfort in knowing he is forever in the hearts of all who knew him. He was very very loved and will forever be missed.

I'm an IBM vendor that worked with Hal at Saks many times installing new servers. He was great to work with and a fun guy to be around. He will be greatly missed for a long time.

Hal has always been a Best Friend from school days at Wingfield ,Though we haven't seen each other in many years I had thought of him often and actually Googled his name and found his address a few weeks ago as I work in Edwards from time to time I found the House but it was in the middle of the day and no one was at home. Hal always had a big heart and would do anything for anyone.I have quit a few memories some of which I would like to share. In High School his first car was a 59 Ford and we were able to get about 12 or more people in that car and ride at Jackson Square Parking lot.His Second car was a Green VW bug that we spent many hours in.We use to go thru the Auto Car Wash in that car with the 8 Track Playing loud.After Graduating from High School His Parents which were super folks gave him a New Black Road Runner.I think we went down Terry Rd.late one night close to 100 mph.My favorite memory was when we went downtown Jackson together to take an entry test to Hinds at Raymond and on the way back on Capitol St. we were in his Road Runner and it was starting to snow and on the radio Bruce Springsteen's " Jungleland  "  was playing. Thru all these years I have thought about that day when I here that Song. I Pray for Debra , Teri and Eric and all the Grandbabies that He Loved so much.

How do you say good bye to the greatest man you ever knew?  Your rock and anchor?  I was lucky enough to have the best man for a father.  He was my mom's best friend for over 40 years.  He was a man my brother and I looked up to tremendously.  He had a lot of people who loved him.  His shoes will never be filled by anyone ever.  This pain is the worst pain possible.  I can honestly say my Daddy died doing exactly what he loved- taking care of his land.  There wasn't a Saturday that you wouldn't find him on the tractor or lawn mower.  I'm so glad we all were together Father's Day weekend to celebrate what a wonderful father he was.  He was always there anytime you needed him.  He would fuss when we would come up with projects for him or how I always had the knack for calling them right at dinner time at night.  He loved to spend time with my brother hunting and piddling.  Myrick would greet him at the door begging for  tractor ride and he would put his stuff down and take that little boy on a ride.  He loved his grandchildren so much.  He just got a 4 wheeler for Sydney to start riding.  He just got the seat back Friday from getting it recovered.  I know that he is in a better place but that doesn't make it any easier for us now.  He was a very simple man and a man of few words.  He had a funny dry sense of humor that could crack anyone up.  He always knew how to say the right thing at the right moment to make you laugh.  He wasn't much for dressing up- his uniform consisted of overalls every day.  He's wearing one of his favorite camouflage shirts and precious overalls to his final resting place on this earth.  He had the biggest heart of anyone I know and would do anything for anyone.  This just makes you really realize that tomorrow is never a guarantee.  What I wouldn't give to talk to him just one more time.  There's just so man what ifs and whys- my family is forever broken hearted for loosing our leader.  I know that faith in God is supposed to get you thru theses times- but right now it's just hard.  Hard to understand God's bigger plan.  I know my family is crushed at this bigger plan- because this wonderful man's life was cut way too short at the young age of 61.  He didn't get to retire yet and enjoy doing what he wanted to do.  He was a hard and loyal worker who talked about retiring in a few years.  He still had a lot of life to live.  He got to see Sydney play in her first softball game a few weeks ago.  He loved to take Sydney hunting and looked forward to taking Baleigh and Myrick one day.  He talked about getting Greyson out there to get him a big buck.  He even switched from Busch to Natural Light because of Gent.  He loved everyone around him with all of his heart.  He will forever live in our hearts until we get to see him again.  I know he's in heaven now with his parents watching over his family.  He was our everything.  Our rock.  We are forever changed by this.  He leaves a lasting legacy of greatness in my book.   There is no greater man than him.  I will live a little more and worry a little less.  Material things don't matter at all.  Time with family and friends is my number one priority.  Eric and I have to take care of mama now for Daddy.   This sweet man's work on earth is finally done and I know he's cutting much greener pastures where he is now.  So go rest high on that mountain Daddy- we will take care of Mama and your land.  There won't be a fish caught out of that pond that doesn't remind us you.  Not one lap around that place without you watching over us.  I will miss your kiss good bye and big wave and smile as we leave your driveway.  We will forever hold you tight in our hearts forever.   I love you with all my heart.

I'm not an employee of Saks, but a vendor.  I've know Hal for as long as Saks has been my account, which is a little longer than 10yrs.  From day one, Hal and I connected. It's been a great pleasure knowing Hal as a friend and benefitting from his keen attention to detail as a true professional.  There has been many projects that Hal has assisted me with, even when he wasn't asked and it was outside the scope of his role.  Every time I would go into the datacenter, it was automatic that I would be looking for Hal.  If I saw him first, I would sneak around to scare him or vice-versa if he saw me first.  I don't know who Saks will hire to pick up where Hal left off, but whoever it is, they certainly will have some big boots to fill.  They might be able to pick up in his absence, but they will never be able to replace Hal.  This man was one of a kind and truly irreplaceable.  He will be sorely missed both personally and professionally.

I worked with Hal for 5 years and in those 5 years I would always enjoy seeing him.  He would always bring a smile to my face as he tried to sneak up and scare me.  He would always go out of his way to help me in any way possible.  Hal was a great man that will be missed.

The Parrish family send our deepest condolences. I used to work with Hal at SAKS, we used to eat and tell jokes during lunchtime. My dad Kerry V. Parrish went to highschool with Hal.

Words alone can never express the sadness we feel in our hearts when we lose a loved one in death. May God's (Psalm 83:18) words at John 6:40 be a comfort to you all in your time of sorrow.

Ours heart are broken with you all knowing how much you ALL loved Hal. Only got to meet him a few times but the amazing stories you shared made us fell like we were enjoying the times you all spent together. There are no words we could share to ease your hearts today. Deborah, Eric, and Teri,

There are no healing words of comfort at this time but the memories of love from this wonderful man - husband and dad - I pray can provide some peace and comfort to you now and in the days ahead.  

He was a special man, a man of honor and integrity.  One that loved his family.  He was prouder of the accomplishments of his family rather than his own. He was accomplished in his career and in life.  No regrets.  A job well done.  

To paraphrase a poem I once read:
If you could write a story, it would be the greatest ever told, of a kind and loving father, who had a heart of gold.  
If you could write a million pages, you would still be unable to say, just how much you love him every day.  
You will always remember what he taught you.  Of course, your hurt and sad,  but know you are blessed because you will always be able to call him your Dad.

The good news is he will be with you forever and never be forgotten because he will always be in your hearts.  

God bless you all and know there is no way to understand but we pray for peace and comfort to you.

I have know Hal since the day he was born. I remember the baby announcement his parents mailed out. Always, a good little boy and grew into a fine young man, then husband, daddy and granddaddy. Like his daddy he was a man of few words. I remember us playing with change as little kids and I let him swallow a nickel. Immediately, his mother picks him up by his feet shook him and out came the Nickel. Even though I never saw him much anymore, I feel a great loss in my heart because of the good man and cousin he was. We will miss him, but his family has many memories to cherish. Love and prayers to each of you .
