Robert attended Liberty Grove Elementary school and graduated From Clinton High School in May of 1949. He married Mary Annette Gatewood in September of 1949.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served 21 years before being Honorably Discharged in 1971 having attained the rank of SMSGT. During his career he was stationed at bases in Texas, Florida, Panama Canal, Korea, Mississippi and Germany.
After retirement he settled his family in Jackson and operated several businesses including Heating and Cooling, Furniture and Appliances, Home Builder and General Contractor, and Private Investigator. For many years he was known as Brother Bob Sheppard and shared the Word Of God and his biblical wisdom with many and varied people and groups.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ralph and R.B., his sister Jean, as well as his youngest son Jeffery “Skip” Sheppard.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 74 years as well as by his sister Ann Fowler, his sons Robert “Buck” and David L, his grandson Jason Sheppard and granddaughter Jessica Sheppard as well as her children Makayla, Julia, Sean and Kashlynn Mae.
He will always be remembered as forthright, compassionate and a great friend, father, grandfather and great grandfather and spiritual leader.
A visitation for Bob will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Bob will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park.
