Ann Rush Hutchison Hawthorne

November 04, 1941 - November 27, 2021

Ann Hawthorne, age 80, of Jackson, MS, peacefully passed away while reading her devotional which was written daily by a friend at the Orchard.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents Byron & Mae Louise Hutchison of Hazlehurst, MS, her sister Helen Louise Hutchison Caldwell of Baton Rouge, LA (11/26/2002), her brother James B. Hutchison of Hazelhurst, MS (4/1/1995), her son William Dean Hawthorne, Jr. (March 21,1987), and her husband of 59 years, Bill, who passed away on March 10, 2021.

She is survived by her daughters Margaret Hawthorne (Bruce) of Overbrook, KS, Sarah H. Seabrook (Patton) of Ridgeland, MS, and Caroline H. McIntosh of Oxford, MS. She was blessed to have been an active, fun-loving Grandmother to her 7 grandchildren: Ann Louise, Pat, Will, & Sarah Margaret Seabrook and Anderson, Ella & Ann Caroline McIntosh.

Ann attended LSU where she met her husband, Bill. After moving for several years, the family settled and made Jackson, MS their home. Ann was an active volunteer at her children’s schools and the Mississippi Museum of Art. In addition, she participated in the DAR, numerous lunch and supper clubs, and The Garden Club of Jackson.

She was an avid member of Meadowbrook Church of Christ, where she loved to attend the women’s Tuesday morning Bible class with her friends and was a devoted and dedicated member of her faith. At church, she served on many committees mentoring young women and families, improving the grounds with her exceptional gardening skills, and providing meals for those in need. Her days were filled with gardening, cooking, making special outfits for her grandchildren, crewel work, needlework, bird watching, and her daily walks. Ann loved spending summers at her family home, “The Camp”. This was her favorite place to swim in the spring-fed pool and watch her children and grandchildren develop a passion for the outdoors.

After raising her children, her greatest joy was providing a magical place for her grandchildren at home and at the Camp. To name a few, in her home, they experienced fairy lands, puppet shows, fabulous tea parties, pirate ships, safaris, camp outs and parades. Her grandchildren loved helping her in the kitchen, and she always prepared their favorite dishes and desserts.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 3 with Visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 and the service following at the Lakewood Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Jackson, MS. Donations may be made to Sunnybrook Children’s Home in Ridgeland, MS.
