Robert "Bob" E. Austin

Of Jackson, MI passed away on March 15, 2024 at the age of 83. Bob was born in Jackson, MI on February 11, 1941 to parents George F. and Helen H. (Loring) Austin. After graduating from Jackson High School in 1958, he worked at the Jackson Citizen Patriot for 2 years. Bob completed boot camp, spending 6 months at Fort Knox, and then 5 years and 6 months in the National Guard. Bob then spent 33 years at Kelsey Hayes. He married Barbara D. Austin on August 19, 1978, and they were married for 46 years. Bob loved old cars, drag racing, '52 flathead Ford and '58 Chevy and his favorite cars where Ford Coups from 1932-1934, Corvettes and a 1957 Chevy. He was a member of "Good Guy Nationals" for 17 years. Bob also loved camping with the kids. Being a Dad brought him so much joy. He was a member at Bennett Community Church for over 60 years and enjoyed working at the church, especially going on Mission Trips to Mexico. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara Austin; children Vicki (Louie) Palmer, Robin Austin, Steve (April) Dancer, and Sueann Austin; grandchildren Noel (Todd) Stevens, Cole Austin, Sean Dancer, Taryn Ray, and Jax Ray; and brother George Austin. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kelly Austin; and siblings Pat, Don, Shirley, Bill, Jack, Bev, and Ruth. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Bennett Community Church, (5990 Springport Rd., Jackson, MI 49201) with Pastor Edwin Utz officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 11:00 AM until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Austin family.
