Age 74 of Jackson, passed away at home on December 5, 2012 after a brief illness with her daughters and loving companion by her side. She is survived by her daughters Nanette Way and Martha DeWitt, grandchildren Charles and Katherine DeWitt, and siblings Chuck Farris and Joyce Conant. Phyllis was a devoted and unconditionally loving mother. Words cannot describe how deeply her children loved her. She was a tremendous role model. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys in life. She adored Charlie and Katie and loved her trips to Minnesota. Her loving companion, Douglas Marsh, brought tremendous love, devotion and fun to Phyllis for more than six wonderful years. Whether on the go or at home all that mattered is that they were together. Phyllis was a beautiful bright light; loved by all who knew her. Her smile was lovely and her laugh was a delight to hear. She selflessly gave of herself and her integrity, grace, and warmth were inspirational. Phyllis had a successful career in Jackson. She served as Jackson County Human Resources Director from 1981-1996, after having served as Director of Region II Employment and Training Consortium. After retirement she worked as Personnel Director for Community Action Agency. As a lifelong resident of Jackson County she demonstrated her dedication to the community by serving on numerous boards and committees and served as past president of the Michigan Association of County Personnel Officers. She actively demonstrated her integrity, honesty and fairness, and was a mentor to many. Per Phyllis' wishes, there will be no memorial service. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Jackson Interfaith Shelter, 414 S. Blackstone St, Jackson, MI, 49201.
