Age 81, died June 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital in Jackson, Mich., following a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John “Jack” R. Hunter of Jackson; two daughters, Lisa (Richard) Griffis of Lansing, and Jennifer Dunham of Pleasant Lake; five grandchildren, Michael Griffis of Los Angeles, Jonathan (Stephanie) Griffis of Jackson, Chelsea Dunham, Robert Dunham III, and Emily Dunham, all of Pleasant Lake; sisters Janice (George) Whiting, and Stephanie (Orson) Cardon; and brothers Patrick (Linda) Burke, and Dennis (Gloria) Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVerne and Edith (Basala) Burke; brothers, John Burke, William Burke, and Mike Burke, and sister Deloris Repasy. Jackie was born on Feb. 20, 1943, in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School. She met Jack soon after and they married on Oct. 20, 1962. While raising their daughters, Jackie worked a variety of full- and part-time jobs as a nurse, eventually retiring from W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital. Jackie received an Associate Degree from Jackson Community College in 1985. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Michigan Center and volunteered with Jack to take communion to home-bound congregants. Her heart for serving led her on medical mission trips to Guatemala and Jamaica. Jackie loved visiting Florida and went as often as she could, taking many family trips to Disney World while their daughters were growing up. In retirement, Jackie and Jack would take month-long trips to Fort Myers Beach each fall and spring. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of the life of Jackie Lynn Hunter will be held at noon (12:00 PM), Monday, June 24, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church, 4250 Page Ave., Michigan Center, MI 49254, with Pastor Mike Anderson officiating. The family will hold a visitation at the church, starting at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Roseland Memorial Gardens. A lunch will follow the service.
