Alvin Joe Smith Jr.

Alvin Joe Smith, Jr. was born on July 24th, 1968 to Alvin Joe Smith Sr. and Bertha Mae Smith (Tillman). Jr. was the second to the oldest child of six children. Jr. graduated from Jackson High School and continued his education in college to become a social worker, in which he had great love for people. Later, he moved to Ypsilanti, MI where he started his own business of 27 years. Jr. married Sonji Eddins of Ypsilanti and from this union came three children.

God called Alvin Jr. home on February 23, 2020. He is survived by his mother and father, Bertha and Alvin Smith; his wife, Sonji ; three children, Alvin J. Smith III, Antonio Washington and Jovontae Washington; grandson, Nuzey Smith; three brothers, John J. Smith (Linda), Thomas Smith and Matthew Smith (Amy); three sisters, Jacqueline Smith, Bonnie Woods and Ingrid Hicks, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lottie Smith; grandmother, Alice Tillman; grandfather, Thomas C. Smith; two aunts, Shirley Lindsey and Vashtye Reynolds; and three cousins, Marvin Tillman, Zona Lindsey and Angela Tillman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Greater Philadelphia Church of God in Christ at 265 E. South Street, Jackson, MI 49203 with family hour starting at 11:00 am followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm.
