Funeral Service for Shirley Amick Mitchell, 79, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Mrs. Mitchell passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Born in Chapin, she was a daughter of the late Reuben and Martha Derrick Amick. She was the wife of the late John W. “Bill” Mitchell, Sr. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, WELCA, FACES, and the Adult Sunday School Class. She was also a former organist and pianist at the church. Mrs. Mitchell attended USC and retired from General Electric following 20 years of service. She was a member of the Ancient Irmese Red Hat Society and was a former volunteer with Lexington Medical Center, Irmo. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed traveling, golfing, knitting, cross stitching and sewing, but her favorite activity was spending time with her granddaughter.
Surviving are her son, Michael F. Sellers (Anna); granddaughter, Emily Julia Sellers; siblings, Carolyn Guinn, Jackie Dorn, and Jesse L. “J. Lee” Lindler.
The family extends a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital for their excellent care shown to Mrs. Mitchell during this time.
