CHAPIN - A memorial service for Johnny J. Hollis Jr., 83, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. There will also be a livestream of the service on Dunbar Funeral Home – Dutch Fork’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/DunbarDutchFork The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hollis died Saturday, January 16, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Johnny J. Hollis Sr. and Leila Mae Wolfe Hollis. He graduated from Columbia High School and served in the S.C. Air National Guard for several years. He retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections where he specialized in kitchen equipment repair. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, working in his shed fixing anything and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruby Abbott Hollis; sons, Johnny “Jay” Hollis III (Bina) of Chapin, Curtis A. Hollis of West Columbia; sisters, Shirley H. Amick of Columbia, Margie H. Oswald (Bill) of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, Brittany, Kelsey and Haley; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and Robbie Collins. He was predeceased by sisters, Jimmie Boykin, Eleanor H. Takach, and Evelyn H. Hedgepath.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made a charity of one’s choice.
