Eric Wayne Johnson, 48, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapin Baptist Church with a private burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 24, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Pallbearers will be Chris Waites, Paul Byram, Ben Overholser, Troy Shealy, Trey Plowden, Todd Sandifer, Mike Cooke, and Jerome Clamp. Born in Columbia, Eric was a son of Wayne and Connie (Beasley) Johnson. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and an all-around family man. Eric graduated from Chapin High School and Francis Marion College. He participated in football, baseball, wrestling and master singers throughout his education. He retired from Midlands Technical College after 25 years of service. Eric was an active member of Chapin Baptist Church. He was a former deacon at McGregor Presbyterian Church where he taught confirmation and was a youth group advisor. He served as a missionary in Taipei, Taiwan. Eric enjoyed coaching his son’s recreational teams. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-two years, Susan Creech Johnson; sons, Chapell Johnson, Chandler Johnson of Chapin; brother, Chad Johnson (Wendy) of Anderson; brother-in-law’s, Johnny Creech of Florence, Roy Creech (Meg) of Sumter; sister-in-law, Miriam Brice (James) of Greenville; in-laws, John and Tumpy Creech of Sumter; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend gracious thanks to the staff of MUSC in Charleston for their constant care and compassion to the family during this difficult time.
