Colin Christopher Smith

Colin Christopher Smith, 44, went to be with the Lord January 14, 2022. Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m., chapel services at 1:00 p.m., January 24, 2022, at Dunbar Funeral Home, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC, with burial to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at their home, 1927 Cedarbrook Drive, Columbia, SC.

A native of Miami, Florida, Colin was born February 16, 1977, to Gary and Gwynne Smith. A year later Gary, Gwynne and Colin moved to Columbia, SC.

Colin went to elementary and middle school in the Irmo area, spending much of the summers and holidays in Sylvania, Georgia, where his grandparents, Robbie “Bubba” and Doris Moore, lived in the country. There he and his grandfather bonded through their love of the woods, target shooting, fishing, playing cards, playing baseball, golfing, gardening and life in general as lived in the South.

Colin loved sports from a very early age, playing baseball and soccer. In high school he played baseball for Irmo, finishing one season as upper state champs. He was named to the all-district team at third base. He later played for the Irmo American Legion team which won the state championship in 1995.

Colin worked 20 years in hospitality, with most of those years helping run his family’s restaurant, which closed during the pandemic. He was currently employed with Marco’s Pizza.

Colin was an avid sports fan. He loved the Miami Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins, and the Miami Heat, but also had an amazing knowledge of the teams and players in the NBA and NFL. He also watched boxing from a very young age and could accurately recount the history of the sport at length.

Colin learned the joy of cooking from his mom, and often cooked for family and friends tasty dishes. He also learned from his mom to love animals, and especially loved and cared for his two cats, Dano and Geisha.

The church Colin attended was River City Chapel, and he professed faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his girlfriend, Nicole Boone, and his former wife, Heather Curry.
