Gary Windle Jones

Funeral Service; Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Dutton Funeral Home.

Interment with full military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Gary W. Jones was born in Wichita Falls on October 6th, 1935 to Windle George & Violet Jones, of Kamay. He graduated Valley View High School. While in service Gary Graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach, Fl. with a BS Aeronautical Science. Gary married the love of his life, Shirley U. Whitsitt, on Sept 26, 1953.

Gary joined the U.S. ARMY in 1963. He began his career as an enlisted/ PV1, PV2, PFC, NCO/Sargent & Staff Sargent, when he applied to Helicopter Flight School at Ft. Walters, TX, became an ARMY Aviator, Earned Warrant Officer WO1-WO2, direct commission to 1st Lieutenant and retired as a very distinguished Field Grade Officer the rank of Major with 25 years of active duty. He served two tours in Vietnam 1966-1967 when he was severely wounded in combat as a pilot and was awarded the Purple Heart & final tour 1968-1967 when he was awarded (2) Bronze Star with Valor. He was also one of the eldest current licensed (Jan 2023) FAA Certified Helicopter Flight Instructor current up to his death. Just the way he wanted it!

After retiring from military service, he served several local communities as City Manager. Electra, TX, Holliday, TX, Seymour TX & Burkburnett, TX

Gary was so kind hearted. His smile and handshake were true. Gary will be remembered not only for his honesty, integrity and loyalty but being the very best husband, father, and dearest friend to so many of you.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Jones (9th of February 2022). He and Shirley will be together to celebrate their 70th Anniversary on September 26, 2023.

He is survived by his son, (Veteran) Gary W. Jones II and wife Marci, daughter, Kelly S Jones. Grand Children (Veteran) Gary W. Jones III and wife Trinity, David B. Jones and wife Summer Campbell, Kira Win Jones, Lindsay and husband (Veteran) Trey Waldhauser, (Veteran) Christopher Adam. Great Grand Children, Sydney and husband Kyle Bryant, Aurora, (Veteran) Dorian, Hailey & Xeen Waldhauser. Great Great Grand Children, Leo & Otis Bryant. Sisters Vicki & Diane Meredith, Special Extended Family, niece, Connie Parnell, nephew, Ricky Peterson, Great Nephew, Tyler Parnell and family, Walker Peterson and family.
