It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandpa, brother, best friend and our captain, on November 15th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Inverness on November 22nd, 1963, he was a son of the late William (Willie) and Anna Cameron.
Scott was raised on Port Hood Island with his parents and sister. They lived the simple life, roaming around the Island with cousins, playing at the shore, hunting, trapping, ranching and fishing. As he grew older these interests, became his passions. Scott became a successful fishermen, fishing just about everything under the sea, but mostly lobster, ground fish, herring and scallops. His days off the water were spent building and repairing traps, mending or making nets, repairing scallop drags, making gangens, and baiting trawl. He was a proud member of North of Smokey Fishermen’s Association.
Scott was also a rancher, and he and his father, Willie, owned Cameron View Fox Farm. They began their ranching days on Port Hood Island, and eventually moved the barns and animals to Glencoe Station. He and Willie were successful at many fox shows and always came home with various ribbons.
However, Scott’s true passion was for his family. He married Marcey July 14th, 1984 and they were inseparable until the untimely passing of Marcey in March of 2010, after 25 years of marriage. They were soul mates, and built a beautiful life together.
His children were the centre of his world, and Scott enjoyed spending time running around the province to hockey rinks and basketball games, and more often than not, he’d have a house full of young people that enjoyed his company as much as they enjoyed his children’s.
You’d often catch him visiting family and friends for a quick hello, heading to Port Hood Island for a supper with old friends and chatting with fishermen at Murphy’s Pond.
His eyes would light up at the sight of his grandchildren, with a smile to match. He loved animals, especially his golden retrievers and the numerous cats he had over the years. He enjoyed a good prank, a funny story and was always ready to help anyone in need.
Scott is survived by his children who will be forever heartbroken, Amy (Jake), Nancy (Erik) and Grant (Ronelle); and his 3 precious granddaughters, Emma, Jane and Ella. He is also survived by his sister, Diane (Kevin), Port Hood; brother-in-laws Gary (Valerie), Trenton; David (Sheila), Judique; Glen (Annette), Glencoe Station; Ronnie, Glencoe Station; and his sister-in-law, Diane (Charlie), Port Hood. Scott is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, friends, fishermen, and a community who loved him. He leaves behind his beloved cat, George, who kept him company for the last 13 years, and has been adopted by his sweet granddaughter, Jane.
Scott was predeceased by the love of his life, Marcey; a loss he never healed from, whom he is now reunited with for eternity. He is also predeceased by his mother and father, Anna and Willie; his mother and father-in law, Margie and Angus MacDonell, his brother-in-laws Archie Duncan MacDonell, Wayne MacDonell, and his sister-in-laws, Anne MacDonell and Lori MacDonell. Scott was also predeceased by his best friend and cousin, Hugh Watts.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for the compassionate, professional care Scott received over the last four weeks. The nurses ensured Scott and his family were all taken care of, day and night. Although there are too many people to name, we would like to acknowledge Jenelle Rankin, a family friend and RN, for everything she did for our family during our Dad’s time in the hospital. Her kindness and compassion made a world of a difference in his care and brought us all much needed comfort at this incredibly difficult time.
Visitation will be held in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Sunday, November 24th, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held in St. Stephen’s United Church, Port Hood on Monday, November 25th, 2024 at 11:00am with Reverend Nick Phillips officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Hood Island Residents Association, a Not-For-Profit organization, to assist with the upkeep of Scott’s Island community.
