MacLeod, John Walter – age 73 passed away on Friday March 29, 2013 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 6, 1940 in St. Rose, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late John Roderick and Elizabeth Ann (Rhymer) MacLeod. John Walter was a member of St. Andrews Parish, Antigonish and St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, Broad Cove. John was a retired iron worker, Local 752 in Halifax. He was also a miner and worked in the woods. He loved fishing, hunting, and playing a good game of crib. He also loved his two English Mastiffs (Sophie and Shelby). John will be missed by all who came to know him. John Walter is survived by his wife, Catherine (Swallow) MacLeod; daughter, Laura (Hector) Chisholm, sons, Ronald (Shannon), and Robert (Michelle); brothers, George (Nancy), Allan (Mary Ann), Ernest, sisters, Lauchina (Marvin), Marie (Martin), Mary Evangeline (Kevin), Sylvia (John). many nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Virginia, Alice, Edith, one niece and nephew.
Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Wednesday April 3, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial at a later date in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Parish Cemetery Fund, Broad Cove or to a charity of your choice.
