MUISE, David Bernard 55, of Port Hood, Inverness Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dave Muise on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at the Strait-Richmond Hospital. Born in Halifax on July 19, 1956, Dave was the son of the late Fred and Joan (Pittman) Muise.
Dave worked for Nova Scotia Power for over 30 years, first as a power line technician and later as a Field Supervisor in Metro Depots in Halifax. In 2004, because of their love for Cape Breton, he and his family moved to Port Hood and Dave became a Field Supervisor for Nova Scotia Power working out of Port Hawkesbury. He was greatly admired and respected by his co-workers.
Dave was a well-known musician who was lead singer and played guitar in bands in the Halifax area. He began writing songs when he was just 14 and recorded his own CD “Take Me Home” which was inspired by his wife Shanny and dedicated to his father. While living in Port Hood Dave was very generous with his talents when called on to play at dances, concerts, fund-raisers, weddings and parties throughout Inverness County. Many will remember his rollicking version of Van Morrison’s “Brown-Eyed Girl”, his sensitive rendition of Jimmy Rankin’s ballad “Malcolm Murray”, and how he nailed Willie Nelson’s “Seven Spanish Angels” and numerous other favourites including his personal compositions like “The Road to Judique”. Dave also had great success coaching baseball during his time in Dartmouth. He reintroduced little league baseball to his new community, combining his passion for baseball with his love for children, who were always drawn to him. His compassion and concern for others was also shown by his decision to be a tissue donor.
Dave was a devoted husband and father, an active community member who volunteered at many events. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed boating, ATV riding and snowmobiling with family and friends. Dave’s sincerity, modesty, generous spirit and bright smile touched all who knew him.
Dave will be dearly missed by Shanny, the love of his life and wife of 21 years, their son Jayden, daughter Tanya, Halifax, son Greg, British Columbia, and sisters Dawn, Darla (Joey) Halifax , and Denise, Dartmouth. Also by his brothers- and sisters- in-law, his numerous nieces and nephews, and the many people who were proud to call him a friend. Dave was predeceased by his father Fred and mother Joan.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Inverness Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 7-9 and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Port Hood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Port Hood, Monday at 11 a.m. Celebrant is Fr. Vince Van Zuphten and homilist will be Fr. Bernie MacDonald. Reception to follow at Port Hood Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave’s name to the Psoriasis Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
