It is with great sadness that the family of Catherine ‘Cathy’ Ann Beaton (MacLellan), of Northeast Mabou, revered as a pillar of strength, bravery, and unyielding fortitude, announce her passing on December 9th, 2024. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, in the comfort of her own home.
Cathy was born in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on February 26th, 1953 to the late Christine Catherine Maclellan. Cathy was known for her clever wit and undeniably loving spirit she brought into the world.
Cathy often spoke fondly of her upbringing in Blackstone. She married Donald Alexander on May 8th, 1976, and settled in Mabou to build their life. Cathy lived life to the fullest; she worked as a bookkeeper at the Mabou Co-op, opened a consignment shop in Mabou, ran the Mabou arena restaurant, baked at Shining Waters Cafe and wrapped up her life’s work as a Personal Care Worker, doing Home Care locally, in the surrounding area, as well as in Fort McMurray, AB. Recreationally, throughout out her wonderful life, she was part of a bowling league, a fierce curling team member, she dabbled in tole painting, sewing, knitting, CWL, amateur interior design (of her own home), as well as head cheerleader for her children’s many teams.
Cathy will be lovingly & forever remembered by her devoted husband, Donald Alexander Beaton; her beloved children: Clayton Beaton & spouse, Maggie Grant, Amy Beaton & spouse, Christian Jones, their daughters Lucy & Emma Beaton, and Barrett Beaton & spouse, Anna Beaton, their son Zander Beaton.
She is also survived by her siblings, Angus MacDonald (Catherine), Lawrence MacDonald (M.C.), John J. MacDonald (Joan), Anna Beaton, Marguerite MacDonald (Jimmy), and Lexena Power.
With a hefty family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Cathy's reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
She is joined in rest by her biological mother, Christine Mainville (MacLellan); her parents, Archie Joseph & Mary Catherine MacDonald; her revered uncle, Archie Dan MacLellan; and her brother, Malcom MacDonald; along with many other loved ones throughout her life.
In 2015, Cathy gladly and gratefully retired to divide her time between some greatly enjoyed traveling, her children & beautiful grandchildren, and of course the home of our hearts, Mabou.
Visitation will be held in St. Mary's Church, Mabou from 2pm-6pm on Sunday December 15th, with
a celebration of Cathy’s life to take place on Monday December 16th also in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Inverness Hospital Charitable Foundation, Inverness Oncology Dept, an organization the family is forever indebted to for the dignified compassion Cathy received while in their care.
