Elder William Henry Henderson

Elder William H Henderson was born on November 6, 1934 in Ripley, TN to Eddie Mae Dewalt and William Maclin.

Elder Henderson spent his teenage years in Indianapolis, IN and attended Arsenal Tech High School.

He entered the military after high school. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and fought during the Korean Conflict. He honorably served in the military until 1956.

He accepted our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, into his heart in 1957. He realized early in life that he was born to be a vessel for God; a mouth piece that would spread the word of the Lord, Inspire and Motivate those that felt down and out, Pray and teach faith-living to those that felt hopeless. But he wouldn’t be alone.

He married Mary H. Sanders, who survives him, in February 1961.

They were blessed with four children: Dray Henderson (Paulina Arzate), Eric Henderson, Kalesia Smith (Robert C Smith Jr.) and Nechelle Jones (Tharis Jones). He also leaves to cherish five brothers, three sisters a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Elder Henderson quickly moved thru the ranks of the high calling of the Lord from church member, minister to eventually becoming a young Pastor leading his own congregation, which culminated at Light House Pentecostal Church. He’ll certainly be remembered for how he could bring church members to their feet with his rousing powerful and electric sermons. His gift to minister did not go unnoticed. He received calls from churches throughout the state of Indiana as well as churches in other states to be a guest speaker. He happily traveled and visited other church congregations, never leaving them disappointed.

Elder Henderson worked very hard. He had to balance his daily walk with God along with ensuring that his family was taken care of. And he was able to manage both. He worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Indianapolis Public Schools.

He started in 1972 and retired with a pension in 2000.

Elder Henderson will also be remembered for great conversation. He could battle with the best of them in philosophical conversations, sports talk – especially basketball, football and boxing. But he loved nothing better than talking about the word of the Lord and how important it was to accept Christ into your life.

Elder Henderson wasn’t a singer, but there were times when he could be heard singing one of the old church songs: “Come on, Come on, Come on Don’t you want to go” and on June 8, 2020 he answered by responding “Yes, I want to Go!”

He left us with so many loving memories to hold on to. He’ll be missed, but we know that now he’s resting safe in the arms of Jesus.

Service for William will be held, 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Williams and Bluitt Funeral Home Peoples' Chapel, 5252 E. 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, with visitation from 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am all taken place at Williams and Bluitt Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 East 38th Street, Marion, Indiana.
