Russell Lee Mitchell

Russell Lee Mitchell, age 96, of Speedway, Indiana passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Russell was born in Ashland, Kentucky the son of the late William and Martha (Baker) Mitchell. He was a US Navy Veteran having served aboard USS LST 982. Russell was a 70 plus year member of the West Newton Masonic Lodge No. 707 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis where he received his 32 Degree.

Russell was a longtime member of Crosspointe Baptist Church formerly Eagledale Baptist Church. His favorite hobby was Bowling. Russell retired from Bridgeport Brass in 1993 after 50 years of service.

Russell and his late wife owned and operated Mitchell's Candid Shots, taking thousands of wedding photos for more than 20 years. Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Mary (Angel) Mitchell and his son Larry Wayne Mitchell.

Russell is survived by his son, Garry Mitchell and his wife Monica; his daughter, Donna Patterson and her husband Andy; grandchildren, Tiffany Dial, Zachary and Nicholas (Carmen) Mitchell and a great granddaughter, Alayna Mitchell.

A Celebration of Russell's life will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Crosspointe Baptist Church, 220 Country Club Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 12:00 Noon at the church. Military Honors will be immediately following the Celebration of Life service. Burial will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.

Memorial contributions in memory of Russell may be made to the American Cancer Society or Indy Honor Flight.
