Raymond Leon Williams,
Age 89, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2014. He was born in Indianapolis on October 12, 1924. He attended Washington High School and Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations, and was a draftsman, serving under General Eisenhower in England, who prepared statistical charts and maps showing locations of replacements, supply deposits and shipping points. Returning from the service, he worked for William P. Junclaus and then for the Indianapolis Water Co., where he became President and Chief Operating Officer. He also was on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Water Co., the American Water Works Association and the National Association of Water Companies. Raymond was chairman of the Indiana section of the American Water Works Association, volunteered for the United Way campaigns, and was a Mason. Civic activities included membership in the Rotary Club of Indianapolis and service on the board of directors for Indianapolis Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America and the Indiana Repertory Theater. He received the George Warren Fuller Award given to Indiana’s Water Man of the Year in 1983.
Ray was a loving, caring family man and loved to golf and fish. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Vallie, one brother, Ken Williams of Grand Blanc, MI, sons Bill Williams and wife Debbie of Noblesville and Steve Williams and wife Mari of Carmel, grandchildren, Mark Williams, Jennifer Williams, Jill (Williams) Hoyte, Jackie ( Williams) Shapiro, and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice and Home Instead caregivers for the love and superb care Ray received. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery, followed by the Funeral Services at 1:00 pm. Pastor Suzanne Helms of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 911 East 86th St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240 (kidney.org)
