Nancy J. Schafer

Our vibrant, fashionable, fun matriarch, Nancy J. Schafer, passed away on March 23rd at the age of 86. She was born in Hammond Indiana on January 3, 1939 to Thomas V. and Elsa Sieb Williams. She graduated from Hammond High School and attended Ball State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She met the love of her life, David D. Schafer, while in high school and together they shared 52 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. She enjoyed her career in accounting, working many years for West Baking Company and Top Hat Tuxedo. She always made time to support activities with her children and granddaughters. Nancy and Dave loved the stage and were active in Lamb’s Club and their theatrical party group, MAFIA. They were hosts to many parties in their homes in Indianapolis, Southwest Florida, and Bloomington Indiana, where Nancy loved to entertain friends and family and never knew a stranger. She enjoyed boating, convertibles, cheering on the Colts, Pacers, and Hoosiers, Colts and IU tailgates, golfing at the Pointe, karaoke, shopping at Saks, Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, Chanel No.5, and all things fancy. She and Dave volunteered for the 500 Festival parade for many years where they made lifelong friendships. For the past three years she has resided at the Barrington of Carmel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dave Schafer, her son in law Bill Holland, and her brother Tom Williams. Left to cherish her memory are her children Jenny Holland (Mark Wetzel), Paul Schafer (Jill Fewell), and Heidi Lewis (Mike); granddaughters Alexandra Holland (Ricky Turula), Adrienne Holland Spencer (Nick), and Morgan Lewis; brother Gene Williams (Sandy); sister Bonnie Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for Nancy will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Apres Jack's, 9419 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260. In lieu of flowers or donations, treat a loved one to dinner and drinks and toast Nancy and her wonderful life.
