Joseph Robert Minnis

A proud alumnus of Brebeuf Preparatory School, Joe etched his name into school history by scoring the first two points ever for the Brebeuf basketball team—a moment that showcased his talent in the sport he loved. His love for athletics extended beyond the court, as Joe remained a devoted Indiana sports fan throughout his life.

Joe was a committed member of The Sertoma Club of Broad Ripple and worked with the Village of Merici, where he sought to improve the lives of those in his community. His faith and compassion guided his involvement with Indiana-Kentucky Via de Cristo, where he helped nurture spiritual growth and fellowship. Additionally, Joe gave his time generously to causes close to his heart, including volunteering with the Special Olympics. His kindness and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on everyone he served.

An avid reader with an insatiable appetite for mystery novels, Joe delighted in the twists and turns of countless stories, always eager for the next great tale. Joe also loved gardening, sailing, and being outdoors.

Joe is survived by his wife, Karen Minnis; children, Aaron Minnis, Whitney Chapman (Travis), Joseph J Minnis, Sydney Minnis, and Lenore Minnis (Alan Bishop); grandchildren Hannah Chapman and Jasper Chapman; and sisters, Sue Souls (Tom) and Elizabeth Minnis (Louis Gudema). Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J and Marjory Meyers Minnis.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46240. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will occur at 12:30 p.m. at the White River Yacht Club, 1400 E 74th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Village of Merici, the Special Olympics, or Indiana-Kentucky Via de Cristo, three organizations that Joe held dear. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
