Nécrologie de Gregory "Greg" P. Allen
Greg passed away to the Devine light November 3, 2023, at age 77, peacefully, after a hard-fought battle with Pancreatic cancer. Greg was born October 2, 1946, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Darwin Allen and Virginia Hettle Allen. Greg is survived by his cousin Susan McGuire of Kentucky and sister Pamela Allen. He attended Crawfordsville High School and graduated from Kokomo High School in 1964 and completed both his BA and Master’s degree from Ball State University. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam war and was stationed at Camp Drum, New York, in the Signal Corps as a first lieutenant. Greg began his career at Indiana Bell as a journalist spearheading publications in the early 1980’s. From there he moved to working at AT&T for many years. His career took a turn to being a real estate agent at FC Tucker for more than 20 years. While there, he earned numerous awards for success in sales. He found great reward in helping his clients over the years and many of them are his dear friends today. Greg was “multi layered” and lived a very full, interesting life. He was an adventurer, soldier, soloist, dog whisperer, journalist, and businessman. He played Native American flutes and drums harmonizing with his soulful Spirit. His love of the American southwest drove him to spend months in his RV just enjoying the natural environment of the desert. His skills were many. As an avid cyclist and as a journalist he authored many articles about cycling. He loved to hon his marksmanship skills at the shooting range. At an early age he became an aviator, with multi-engine instrument ratings and was an avid sailor traveling across the Atlantic Ocean twice, solo on his sailboat the “Vindara” - even enduring a hurricane. Most important to Greg was his deep friendships and loving relationships. He was a kind and gentle soul that attracted many people to him. We all enjoyed great meals, good scotch, a cold beer, music, and endless stories together. He would do anything for his friends and family, and we all adopted Greg as a family member. His love of dogs was “second to none” and when “Uncle Greg” entered the room he had a pack surrounding him. We all can smile knowing that Greg is in a “pile of puppies” again joining Fuzz Butt, Prince, Rocky and Wylie. Greg will be laid to rest at Crown Hill National Cemetery for veterans in Indianapolis, Indiana. You can find Greg’s full obituary and future plans for a celebration of life at www.crownhill.org Services will be held at the gravesite at Crown Hill National Cemetery in Indianapolis followed by a Celebration of Life dinner. This is planned for early in 2024. For anyone that would like to be included - please contact David Jessee at 317-590-3877 or [email protected]. All friends and family welcome. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Allen family.
