David E. Newby

David was born October 16, 1929 to J. Edwin and Mary Augusta Newby in Westfield, Indiana. He graduated from Union Bible Seminary in 1950 and attended Marion College in Marion, Indiana for one year. He was married to Harriet Maxine Hendrickson in December 1950 and they had two children. David married Patricia Ann Adams in 1973.

David served his country in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and in the US Air Force Reserves until 1960.

David worked for Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson for over 30 years as an assembly line worker, mechanic, and laboratory technician, but he was most passionate about building and remodeling. When his day job was over, he worked evenings and weekends doing construction. He was known for being able to find solutions to difficult problems. He was willing to allow owners to work with him so they could save money on their projects, teaching them along the way. He took on remodeling an old gravestone shop into retail space for Pat’s picture framing business in Anderson, removing a huge I-beam crane system with only hand tools and converting the building into a two story finished space. He assisted with removing and moving bowling lanes and constructing new facilities in Anderson and Noblesville and also built several houses for the owners. He was willing to tackle nearly every aspect of building without apprehension. David continued to build until well into his 80’s.

David was a very humble, quiet, and soft spoken man who loved his family deeply. He had a very dry wit and usually had a humorous comeback to questions and comments.

After David retired from GM, he and Pat became full time RV travelers using Queen Valley, Arizona, as their home base, eventually making Queen Valley their permanent home. David and Pat enjoyed playing games with friends, fishing, hiking, ATV-ing, photography, model trains, and watching Arizona wildlife. They were active in The Church at Queen Valley and the RV park, developing a very large community of friends.

David is survived by daughter Marilyn Newby; son Dale Newby (Debbie); step-daughter Anita Sale (Mike); step-son Ron Adams (Becky Troyer); grandchildren Michelle Newby, Valerie Osby (Mike), Claire Sale, Charlie Sale, Rosalie Adams; sister Rebecca Burke; brother Allen Newby (Jean); sisters-in-law Becky Newby and Ruth Newby.
