55, of Indianapolis, passed away August 30, 2014. She was born March 3, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arthur and Grace Eisele.
Cheryl was an adjunct professor at Butler University and University of Indianapolis, teaching music education, choral conducting, university choirs, studio piano and voice. She also supervised and mentored choral music education student teachers.
Her teaching career spanned over 30 years, on both high school and collegiate levels.
A believer in quality music education for every child, she participated as a frequent clinician, adjudicator, guest conductor for All-State Honor Choirs, Show Choir Camps of America, school music festivals and competitions, state music conventions, community and church choirs.
She toured North and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Asia.
One of her professional highlights was her recent conducting debut at Carnegie Hall in April 2014. Two choirs of which she was most proud, The Indianapolis Youth Chorale, and The St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Women’s Ensemble, New Song.
Cheryl served on the Indiana Music Educators Association Board of Directors and the Indiana Choral Directors Association Membership Committee. She was a member of National Association for Music Education (NAfME), National Collegiate Choral Organization, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her beloved husband Kent West, brother Mark (Marie) Eisele, step children Andy West, and Kerry West, sister and brother in-laws Karen and Tim Reiman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 3, 2 - 4pm at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis. A celebration of life service will follow at 4pm. Services entrusted to Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Indianapolis Children’s Choir - Cheryl West Memorial Fund.
