Nécrologie de Charles Edward Chilton
Charles Edward Chilton, son of the late James Chilton and Sallie Lasco Chilton, was born April 19, 1932 in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was one of nine children, of which Ophelia Woods and Christine Anderson remain.    Charles accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Oakwood, Tennessee.  In 1952, Charles graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville, Tennessee. Following high school, he attended Tennessee State University then served in the armed forces and was honorably discharged. He later relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana and married Martha McCary.  After 35 years of service, Charles retired from the United States Postal Service. He owned and operated Chilton Lawn Care for 50 years. Charles was a loving father and devoted family man. He loved to be outdoors, in nature. On nice days and even not so nice days, he could often be found at his picnic table under the umbrella tending to his beloved baby-back ribs on the grill or his garden. He could be counted on to attend the family reunion, The Hollow campout in Tennessee, and the Tom Joyner cruise every year. He enjoyed lighthearted debates and tests of wit (especially if you could stump him), and held the Chilton name in high regard. He will be remembered best for his love of family and friends, and his welcoming and helpful demeanor.  Mr. Charles E. Chilton departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the age of eighty-seven. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ella B. Moss, Louise Hunter, Mervin Chilton, Lorene Overton, Rosia Baynes, and Jessie Chilton.   He leaves cherished memories for his 3 children James Chilton and daughter-in-law Patrice Chilton, Shawnette Chilton Brown, and Dexter Chilton, three granddaughters, two sisters, and a whole host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Pall Bearers: Vincent Overton, Stephen Baynes, Steven Chilton, Ron Anderson and William Helm Honorary Pall Bearers: Leonard Eldridge, Kenneth Overton, Eugene Chilton Jr, Ceasar Chilton, and Charles Chilton
