July 27, 1926 – July 9, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Mrychka, a beloved mother, grandma "nana", great-grandma, and great-great-grandma, on July 9, 2024. Born on July 27, 1926, to George and Lydia Leibel, Betty was the second oldest of twelve children. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, all her siblings, and her two oldest children, Ronald and Carol.
On May 4, 1946, Betty married Henry, and together they raised three beautiful children: Ron (Sandy), Carol (Dave), and David (Shirley). Her family grew to include eight grandchildren: Michelle (Mark), Rhona (John), Mishonna (Joel), Glendon, Brent (Noni), Crispin (Nicole), Braiden, and Brooklyn (Bryson); eleven great-grandchildren: Taylor (Maddison), Connor, Madilyn, Raya, Harli, Annabelle, Everly, Courtney, Devon, Kassidy, and Destiny; and one great-great-grandchild, Maverick.
Betty and Henry raised their family on their homestead, ten miles south of Candiac, Saskatchewan. Betty was a hard worker, always ready to run meals out to the fields or burn the flax piles. Her home was a warm and welcoming place where coffee was always on, and she delighted in the company of her children and grandchildren.
Betty, known for her love of all things pink, cherished her flower garden, especially her bubble gum petunias. She enjoyed mowing the lawn on her riding mower and picking raspberries. Betty had a passion for crocheting and a special affection for dolls, rooted in her childhood longing for one. Her family fondly remembers her remarkable knack for removing any stain from laundry, always keeping everything spotless. Betty loved listening to "Swap & Shop," country music, and the Saturday night polka party on the radio. Her grandchildren remember her for her little suitcase of vitamins, never having a grey hair, and her exaggerated weather reports, which will always bring smiles to her family's faces.
In 2001, Betty moved to Vancouver Island, BC, but in her final years, returned to Indian Head, Saskatchewan in 2019. She lived independently and even painted her deck at the age of 96. Betty took great pride in making any house a home; spending time on her deck swing and enjoying her sunset 'cruises' on Katepwa Lake with her family.
Betty held deep affection for the staff and doctors at the Indian Head Union Hospital and Golden Prairie Home. The family cannot express enough appreciation for the care and compassion shown to her.
Betty had a strong faith in Jehovah God, and her faith and hope in the promise of the resurrection (Revelation 21:3, 4) kept her looking forward to the time when she would reunite with her children Ron and Carol.
Betty’s legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
