Louise Bufford Douglass was born on March 24, 1926, in Hardman County, Tennessee. She lived to the age of 97, glory be to God. Louise met Thelmon Douglass and together they raised two children, Samuel Allen (Shirley) and Robin Grant (Robert). She was loved and will be missed by her children, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
Louise served as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant in her younger years, a field which allowed her to use her greatest gift – the gift of helping others. While that is the story of her younger years, her lifelong story might tell us something different. Her lifelong story might tell us that Louise’s real profession was that of Caregiver. She gave care to all whose lives she touched, and anyone would tell you that she was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, niece, cousin, and friend. She knew how to make others feel loved.
Her lifelong story might also tell us that Louise’s real profession was that of Pastor. Louise provided spiritual guidance to all around her. She professed stories of her faith and lessons from the Lord. She taught, through her actions, the talent of humility and not arrogance, the grace of love and not hate, and the compassion to forgive others.
Her lifelong story might tell us that Louise was a Teacher. If you listened to her, you would discover that every story came with wisdom that can only be gleaned from a life well-lived. Many might say that Louise is who taught them about gardening, crafting, cooking, patience, praying, and about being a child of God.
The earth probably tilted a bit on its axis in the moment that it lost Louise Douglass, as it lost someone who made more of an impact on this world than any one person can say. She did so much good for so many people, and we were made better by her living. Louise said that she wanted to be remembered for having lived a happy and optimistic life, always looking for something good in every situation. She knew that she could do nothing without Jesus, and she could do anything through Christ who gave her strength. Jesus was the head of her life and she knew that, by living an obedient life and keeping His Commandments, He will come again to take all the Saints in the clouds to meet the Lord. He will wake her from the sleep of death, and she will be with Him forever!
