Karen Ann Leslie, 66, of Independence, passed away in her home on July 3rd, 2020. She was born December 18th, 1953 to Wayne and Lois LaRue (Bradford) in Neosho, Missouri. Her father and mother preceded her in death. Karen worked at the Social Security Administration for over 20 years and recently retired from her position at the Truman Medical Center in Lakewood.
Karen is survived by her two children. Her son Chad lives in Olathe, married to
Vickie (Khatchadourian). Her son Ryan lives in Blue Springs. She is also survived by one brother, Terry of Overland Park and his wife Lucy (Martinez). Karen had three grandchildren, George, Truman, and Norah. She was adored by her grandchildren, who knew her as Nanna K. Karen also leaves behind one niece Isabella LaRue. She loved her family and supported them unconditionally all of her life.
Karen was a member of the Susquehanna Baptist Church. She leaves dozens of lifelong friends from the Fort Osage class of 1972. This group of friends were constant throughout her life. They loved each other, celebrating and grieving together, and she cherished each of these friendships. Karen was always a loyal, dependable, and consistent friend. That is why she picked up friends wherever she went in life. She loved to dine with friends, join clubs and host events, but they were just opportunities to connect with people and make friends. Karen always felt more joy from the successes of her family and friends than her own.
