Born in Barnstable on January 30, 1953, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Madeline Holmes. Stephen was an accomplished carpenter, and particularly enjoyed cabinetry and fine finish work. His craftsmanship will continue to live on inside many homes across Cape Cod.
Above all, Stephen's greatest accomplishments in life were his 3 kids, Brian, Kevin, and Nicki, and his grandchildren, who he was incredibly proud of.
Stephen was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed the company of many friends, both past and present, at Jack's in Hyannis. Stephen often spent his mornings down by the water, watching the sunrise and reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee. He cherished the weekends spent with his granddaughter, Madison. Stephen will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly L. (Ivany) Holmes; his children, Brian Holmes and his wife Melissa of Locust, NC, Kevin Holmes and his wife Jodi of Hyannis, MA, and Nichole Holmes of Hyannis, MA; step-sons, Daniel Skelton and his wife Danielle of New Bedford, MA, and Thomas Skelton and his wife Jessica of Acushnet, MA; grandchildren, Kennedy and Erin Holmes, and Madison, Nora, Chase, and Sophie Skelton; three brothers, Thomas Holmes of Hyannis, MA, Richard Holmes and his wife Agnes of Dennis, MA and William Holmes and his wife Joan Dalton of NY; and a sister, Deborah Holmes Onnembo and her husband Lou of NH; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Holmes.
Stephen's family would like to extend a special thank you to his loving and compassionate caregivers, Jobelyn, Viola, Carol, and Tanya.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 25th from 3 to 5 p.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.doanebealameshyannis.com
