Born July 10, 1925 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Middleboro, MA to Edna (Thomas) Cushing and Henry M. Cushing of Lakeville, MA. Ruth attended Lakeville Elementary Schools and graduated from Middleboro Memorial High School in 1943. Ruth graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education from Bridgewater State College in June 1947.
After college she taught school for 34 years in Baltimore, MD, Quincy, MA, Harwich, MA, Middleboro, MA and Barnstable, MA.
Ruth lived in Middleboro until 1956 when she married Bradford E. Norris, a Cape Cod native, and resided on Cape for 64 years. She was active for many years at the Federated Church of Hyannis. She was a Town Representative until it went to a Town Council form of government. Ruth was also very active with the Class of 1943 reunions of Middleboro High School.
After retirement, she and her dear friend, Helen Norton Blanchard, walked five days a week to Great Island in Hyannisport. Sadly, Ruth’s husband passed away in 1976. Her parents moved from their retirement home in Maine to be nearer to the family.
Ruth was also predeceased by her mother, Enda T. Cushing; her father, Henry M. Cushing; her sister, Anna Cushing Nourse; and nephews, David Cushing Nourse and Kendrick Henry Tribou. She is survived by her sister Mildred Tribou of Hyannis; her nieces Judith Nourse Butler, Gail Nourse Bernier both of Middleboro, and Michele Grace Tribou of Dennisport; and a nephew, Edward Douglas Tribou of Beverly. Ruth will be forever grateful to all her neighbors and friends for their kindness over the years. She is also survived by dear friends Craig and Peggy Ashworth and her special Ashworth grandchildren, Sarah McCarthy and William Ashworth.
