Robert J. Shallow, 89, of West Yarmouth, MA, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Cape Cod Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Joan (Holmes) Shallow. They would have celebrated their 62nd Anniversary on August 25.
Bob was a proud US Navy Korean War Veteran and recipient of the following service ribbons; National Defense, Good Conduct, Korean Service, Navy Occupation and United Nations.
In 1958, Bob joined the Yarmouth Police Department beginning his 38 ½ year career as a patrolman. Bob was promoted to Sergeant in 1967 and in 1980, was promoted to Lieutenant and continued in that rank until retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing as a child. Later he discovered snowmobiling but his real passion was skiing. He was a fixture on the slopes of Bretton Woods where he skied with friends and volunteered many times for the Special Olympics events.
Bob is predeceased by his sister, Patricia Shallow. In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his four daughters; Jane ( husband Andy passed away in 2004); Kimberly Tuepker and her husband, Mike; Eleanor Shallow; and Mary-Alyce Bernstein and her husband Michael. His grandchildren; Matthew James, Amanda Badoud and her husband Anthony; Stephanie Tuepker; Nathan, Leslie and Alex Buckler, Madison O’Connell and Ethan, Owen, Isaac and Hannah Bernstein. He’s also survived by his great grandson, Andrew Badoud.
Visiting hours will take place Monday, August 13th from 4 pm to 8 pm at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, August 14th at St. Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow at Chandler Gray Cemetery in West Yarmouth.
