Philip is survived by his wife, Rita, of fifty years, and his loving children, Kristin Hudock, wife of Satya, and Justin Hudock, husband of Jen. He will be missed by his grandchildren Maya (14), Elizabeth (5), and baby Philip (1 day old) and nieces Tracy, Diane and Laura. Family was immensely important to Phil. When he was with his family, he was most happy.
Philip grew up in Hazleton, PA with his parents Frank and Mary Hudock and his brother, Robert. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout and a National Merit Scholar. He graduated from MIT with a major in aeronautical engineering. While he was an undergraduate, he and his brother started a flight training school in Lexington, MA. They had a dozen employees and 6 planes. Phil enjoyed piloting his own planes and flying on short trips with his family.
After MIT, Phil went to Boston College to earn his law degree. He later attended Georgetown University to earn a Master of Laws degree. He practiced civil and corporate law for thirty-five years in the Washington, D.C. area. A highlight of his career was trying a case before the U.S. Supreme Court, representing pilots. To help those in need, he generously performed pro bono legal work for many community members and organizations. He started the MIT Enterprise Forum promoting tech entrepreneurship in the DC area. He lived most of his life in Vienna, VA. and retired to Cape Cod in 2009.
Philip was a lifelong Byzantine Catholic who lived his faith in his daily life. In retirement he volunteered for the meal ministry of the homeless shelter. He will be remembered for his ready response to anyone in need. He had a lifelong interest in classical music and enjoyed it at Wolftrap in Vienna and the Cape Cod Symphony.
Travel was another one of his pleasures that was passed on to his children. His trip to Slovakia was a highlight of his travels and a return to his ancestral roots.
A funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, January 11th at Our Lady of Victory church in Centerville, MA. The Mass is at 11 AM. Donations to Phil’s memory may be made to either Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 5200, Harlan, IA 51593; or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
