A graduate of Rutgers University, where he earned his BA degree with highest honors in Engineering, John was a microwave technician in the United States Army, serving on a mountain top in Korea and later in Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal prior to his honorable discharge. Upon returning from military service, John settled in Santa Barbara, CA where he remained for 40 years. He briefly worked for the City of Santa Barbara before becoming a Quality Control Engineer for the Santa Barbara Research Center. He thoroughly enjoyed his career and wrote many policies and procedures prior to his retirement at age 55. John moved to the East Coast 3 years ago, settling in West Yarmouth with his dear friend Christine Pierson.
John loved his Norton Commando motorcycle putting over 77,000 miles on it. He also loved and created strategic war games and was a train enthusiast with an extensive N scale train set-up. A lover of traveling, John once won $16,000 getting a royal flush in Las Vegas.
In addition the Christine, John is survived by dear friend, Suzanne Hunt of West Yarmouth, as well as his first cousins, Bernadette Fahad, Celine Bera, Marissa Schiavello, Donald Metcalf, George Korbelak, and Joseph Korbelak.
Graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
John will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
