HYANNIS- Jeanne C. Ferrell, 90, died peacefully with her family on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Bridges by Epoch in Mashpee. She was the beloved wife of the late Oliver Perry Ferrell with whom she shared 30 years of marriage prior to his passing. A resident of Hyannis, she previously lived for many years in Park Ridge, NJ.
Born in Boston on January 30, 1928, she was a daughter of the late James and Vera Gillespie. Jeanne was a graduate of Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. After a secretarial career in Manhattan, she and her husband co-owned their own business, Gilfer Associates, which sold short wave radios.
Jeanne was a life long pianist. She would often say, "When I went to kindergarten I couldn't recite my alphabet but I could play the piano in three flats". She seriously took up the piano again after the death of her husband in 1984 and became an proficient accompanist. She played for churches and senior choirs in the NY/NJ area. Chopin and Liszt were her favorite composers.
In her later years she traveled extensively with the World Wildlife Fund touring Peru, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands; she boated up the Amazon and toured Tuscany.
Jeanne is survived and will be deeply missed by her three children, Carolyn Ferrell, Leslie Ann Koch, and Michael Ferrell and her four grandchildren Kayli Ferrell, Max Calabro, and Nicholas and Zachary Koch,
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Veronica "Roni" Stratton and her beloved dog, Ginger.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, May 14th from 3 to 5 p.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W Main St., Hyannis. Burial will be held in New Jersey.
