James was a US Air Force Vietnam War veteran. He entered the military as a young man, and served 27 years as a military police officer in the Air Force. Upon retiring, he worked at Community Action Committee of Cape Cod and Islands for many years as a Community Advocate and helped people achieve homeownership, which was important to him. After retiring for a second time, he moved to Florida to escape the New England cold, but returned to be near his family in his later years.
He enjoyed traveling around the world and felt it was a great way to further his education.
