Dennis Arthur O'Neil

He was the beloved husband of the late Rita F. (Souza) O’Neil, whom he

married in 1965. They were married for 45 years until she passed away

in 2011.

Dennis was born in Boston in 1943 but made Cape Cod his home after

marrying Rita. They lovingly raised their two children on Cape Cod

and created many wonderful memories.

Dennis worked for 20 years at the Barnstable County House of

Corrections. During this time, he furthered his education and

received an associates degree in criminal justice from Cape Cod

Community College. And although he retired from the house of

corrections in 2002, he was not one to sit still. He found a part-time

job at Home Depot in the paint department where he loved helping

customers.

At home, he loved his beagles and working in the yard. Every one of

his days was filled with being active in some way. He was also member

of Mariners Fraternal Lodge in Cotuit.

He is survived by two daughters, Shannon Marie O’Neil of Sandwich, and

Denise Theresa (O’Neil) Witter of Centerville, and his brother, Kevin

M. O’Neil of Brockton.

Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Doane,

Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street in Hyannis. A Mass of

Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, April 24,

2014 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street in

Centerville. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in

Centerville.
