Anthony C. DeTora

Anthony "Tony" Charles DeTora, 72, passed away peacefully at home on November 10th surrounded by family. He is reunited with his wife Lisa (Montgomery) whom he married in June of 1987, and was by her side until she passed in January of 2015.

In addition to Lisa, he was predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Domenica (Bisesi); his older brother, Paul; and many cherished friends whom he missed deeply. Tony is survived by his two sons, Steven and his wife Colleen, and Craig, who both still proudly consider Barnstable their home; his three sisters, Donna (Gelsomino) and her husband Bill, Phyllis, and Susan (Dexter) and her husband Kirk, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Tony's journey from Rhode Island to Cape Cod started out as a good time, and lasted for a lifetime. Through happy hours and car meets, he forged decades-long friends with locals and transplants like himself, including his best friend, Gary Amster. At one time, he owned his own auto body shop in Hyannis and met his future wife, a teller at CCB&T, where he was a business customer.

If you knew Tony, you knew he was both a hobbyist and a master creator. He loved his car projects, and never backed down from a challenge others deemed unsalvageable. The family garage was his workshop, never without a project or two (or three) to keep him busy. Tony was also a frequent participant in the Hyannis Father's Day Car Shows, always turning a couple heads with his latest “junker”. And later in life, a lucky few were around to witness Tony's renewed bar hopping days; joining his boys and their friends for a cold beer on the Hyannis waterfront or under the historic beech tree on Main Street.

Even during his final years, despite health complications, Tony would say he was blessed with a great life. He expressed endless gratitude to the nurses and doctors who cared for him and his wife in their final years, as well as to friends and family who regularly stopped by the house to check in on him.

Services will be held Monday November 25 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory, 230 S. Main St., Centerville, MA. Relatives and friends invited. Burial private.
