Bill, a generous and devoted family man, is survived by his wife, Tina Wells Greer; sons Andy Greer (KB), Troy Greer (Mandy); daughter Tamara Grasham; seven grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Upon graduating from Central High School in Nashville, Bill attended Tennessee Tech and earned his BS in Industrial Technology. After graduating, Bill was commissioned into the United States Army as a Field Artillery Officer and later transferred into the Ordnance Corps. Shortly after beginning his military career, Bill married Tina, who stood by him through 58 years, 17 moves, the War in Vietnam, overseas deployments, and countless unaccompanied temporary duty assignments while raising three children.
At the culmination of his 26-year military career, Colonel Bill Greer was awarded the prestigious Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. In his second career, Bill continued to serve our nation as an aerospace defense contractor working for Raytheon, GE and Lockheed Martin.
Bill had charisma and charm that was larger than life. His laugh could be heard throughout a room and his commanding voice could get a parade field full of soldiers to stand at attention. He was a stickler for detail, possessed incredible linguistic skills, and demonstrated a robust resiliency.
Growing up in a challenging economic environment, Bill developed a strong work-ethic and insatiable desire to succeed. He was the first member of his family to attend college and later earned his Master of Science in Contract and Procurement Management from the Florida Institute of Technology while stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Melbourne, FL.
Bill’s most important quality was his desire to do God’s will. He was a devoted Christian and raised his family to love the Lord. Compassionately serving as the hands and feet of Jesus, he volunteered at Friends, Inc. driving the handicap van. His desire to provide, support, sacrifice, forgive and love will continue to be remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be at Mayfair Church of Christ on Saturday, October 28, 2023 beginning at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 12:00. Interment, with full military honors, will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mayfair Church of Christ and/or Still Serving Veterans. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valhallafunerals.com for the Greer family.
