Leroy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy; his two sons, Stephen and Greg with wife Diana; grandchildren, Chris Eng, Jake Neece, Alexandra Neece, and Blake Neece.
Leroy was born August 30th, 1931 in Lincoln County TN, the fourth of 9 siblings. He lived in Tennessee and north Alabama attending high school at Boonshill and Berry College where he played baseball and received his BA degree in Mathematics.
After college he briefly taught high school in Georgia. Leroy enlisted in the Army completing his military service to the nation from 1954-1956 in Germany as part of the occupation forces. After his army service he taught and coached baseball and basketball at Boonshill. Leroy recognized the importance of the new surge in technology and joined the Army ballistic missile command in Huntsville and transferred to NASA upon its formation. He retired from NASA after 33 years earning many service awards supporting every flight program from Mercury to Space Shuttle. After NASA he worked for NTI and retired after 13 additional years of space program service. Leroy touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on October 23, 2020 at 6:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama. Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 24, 2020 at 11:00 am at Valhalla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Leroy's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
