Roger E. Jenson February 8, 1927 – March 24, 2015 Roger E. Jenson, 88, of Madison, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Floyd E. “Tut “ Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Jenson was born in Iola, Wisconsin on February 8th, 1927. He was a 3rd generation Norwegian and the 3rd of six children born to Sidney and Selma Jenson. Roger was a decorated WWII Navy Veteran and received a special commendation for his bravery during a typhoon in Shanghai, China in 1942, just prior to the end of the war. Roger was a combustion engineer in the aluminum industry for over 30 years. His career accomplishments included a design patent on an industrial furnace to melt aluminum. He was an avid gardener, and became a master gardener in Florida in 1995. He was married for 58 years to his loving wife Alice and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. As a boy he grew up on a farm and especially loved animals and the outdoors. Roger was a man of faith and loved singing at his church’s contemporary services at Grace Chapel, Asbury United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Jenson is survived by his children, Judy Schmidt (Rick) of Weedsport, New York, Cynthia L. Jenson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ron Jenson (Stella) of Houston, Texas, Holly J. Lewis (Dwight) of Skaneateles, New York, and Jayne (Ron) Sales of Madison, Alabama; and grandchildren, Michael, Morgan, Danielle, Erika, Alexa, Tyler, and Benjamin. His sister, Bette Settecase resides in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Selma Jenson, and his brothers, Eugene, Troy, Robert, and Phillip. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Grace Chapel, Asbury United Methodist Church, 980 Hughes Road, Madison, Alabama, 35758. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ted Amey, Dr. Alan Weatherly, and Rev. Doug Wootten. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the “G – Wing” at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home, 2701 Meridian St. North, Huntsville, Alabama, 35811.
