Robert was born November 19, 1920 to Morris George Jones and Lydia Jane Summers Jones.
He spent his youth at 295 Ivy Place in Firestone Park of Akron and graduated from Garfield High School in 1939.
Following his graduation, Robert worked at Goodrich Tire and Rubber Company while attending Akron University
where he studied chemistry. In 1942, Robert enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Force. He served his country in
World War II flying B-17 bomber planes out of Africa. Robert attained the rank of Captain and was awarded the
Air Medal and 9 Oak Leaf Clusters. Upon his return from the war he married his sweetheart, Eloise Stephenson.
Through the G.I. Bill, Robert obtained his physics degree from Akron University. He relocated to Huntsville, Alabama
to work with N.A.S.A. as a physicist. He worked with N.A.S.A for over 20 years. In his golden years, Robert's greatest
enjoyment was his time spent with his friends at the Elk's Lodge and singing karaoke. He greatly cherished his
friendships that were made there. Robert is survived by a sister, Lydia Jane Sanders; a brother, Wayne Harold Jones;
three children, Robert William Jones, Donald Edward Jones, and Susan Jones Berry; six grandchildren, Thomas Jones,
Emily Jones Ross, David Jones, Jonathan Berry, Elizabeth Berry, and Lydia Jane Berry; and one great-granddaughter,
Isabella Rose Jones. The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 17, 2016 at Valhalla Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on January 16, 2016 at the same location. Burial will follow the
funeral services. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Valhalla Funeral Home.
