Orris Jean Petty was born on December 13, 1953 to Mary Louise Matthews Clay and General Townsend, in Huntsville, AL.
Orris was a woman of good faith, kindness, and love. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Always ready to help and she gave more that she had to give, especially in the time of need. Despite how she felt, she always found a way to make you laugh and was a joy to be around.
Orris gave her life to Christ at an early age. She loved the Lord. She was a member of the Madkins Chapel CPCA and she also fellowshipped with Oakwood SDA Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Ida Brewton, her parents Mary Matthews Clay, and General Townsend, one brother, Charles Matthews, and a granddaughter, LaShawn Lynch, an aunt, Earnestine Buchanan, and an uncle, Leo Matthews.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her two sons, Wayman (Viola) Petty of Phenix City, AL, and Darryl (Patronia) Petty of Huntsville, AL. Seven siblings, George (Maria) Gordon of Tempio Pausania, Italy, Mark Gordon of Florida, Shannon (Deshawn) Clay of Fayetteville, GA, Lisa (Danny) Brazelton, John (Patrese) Gordon, Maurice (lesha) Gordon, Donnie Gordon all of Huntsville, AL. Her loving aunts, Shirley (Ezell) Leamon, and Dorothy Clark. Her best fest friend and sister-in-law Margaret Ballafant. She has eight grandchildren, KD McKenzie, Artrail Lynch, Lakire McKenzie, Darryl Lamar Petty, EJ (Jodi) Petty, Tesha McKenzie, Terrell Petty, and Jerius Petty, ten great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Do not cry for me.
Pain will no more be upon me. When I open my eyes, I will see my Savior's face.
My body will be glorified and my praise will forever be Holy, Holy, Holy.
Do not cry for me, I am resting now.
