In 1952, at the age of 21, he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina after infantry and paratrooper training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Parachute Badge.
Being a hard worker and having excellent mechanical skills, Lawrence made a career as a cotton oil mill superintendent. He worked at Southern Cotton Oil Mill in Huntsville from 1972-1988. After that, he continued managing an oil mill in Montgomery.
He married Lois Byrd in 1953 and had three children. In 1988, Lois passed away and he later married Lula Mae Slayton.
Lawrence was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for almost 50 years.
Lawrence was preceded in death by: his father Otto Boedeker, mother Marie Richter Boedeker; wife Lois Byrd Boedeker; wife Lula Mae Slayton Boedeker and son Norbert Boedeker.
He is survived by: daughter Rhonda Lisauckis and husband Robert; son Keith Boedeker; sister Evelyn Vittek and brother Leon Boedeker, both of Austin, Texas; grandsons Chris Lisauckis, Brandon Boedeker and Eric Boedeker, all of Huntsville. Lawrence has seven great grandchildren.
A visitation for Lawrence will be held Saturday, May 16, 2020 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Valhalla Funeral Home with a prayer service at 11:00am officiated by Father Joseph Lubrano.
