James William Whitt

James W. Whitt, age 83, of New Market, Alabama passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on the afternoon of Friday, October 6, 2023. James was born January 11, 1940 in Big Cove, Alabama. He lived most of his life in Huntsville, Alabama before settling in New Market, Alabama.

James was preceded in death by his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Joyce A. Whitt.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, James II aka Jimmy (Danyelle); sister, Rosa Hodges (Johnny); grandchildren, Jamie Whitt, Joshua Whitt (Kayla), Becca Whitt (Dillon), Richard Johnson (Jenn), Ashley Hayle (Derrick); great grandchildren, Landon Burgess, Tanner Whitt, Brantlee Whitt, Bryston Preston, Weston Gann, Addison Johnson, Houston Gann; his loyal pets, Paco and Pepper. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

James' hobbies were cutting grass, working with horses, being a competition pool champion, solving crossword puzzles, watching old Westerns and game shows, and reading Louis L'Amour books. James could always be seen wearing pearl snap Western shirts. He attended Home Mission Baptist Church in New Market, Alabama. James' greatest loves were the Lord, his family and singing classic gospel and country music.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 2:00pm in Valhalla's Celebration Chapel.
