CMSgt (Ret) Donald Edward Hunter

Donald Edward Hunter, (79) of Section, AL, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Don was born and raised in Owens Crossroads. After a 21-year career in the United States Air Force, Don spent the rest of his life as a resident of Toney, AL and Section, AL.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Willie Hunter and Calvin Hunter, his wife Mary Hunter, his sister Virginia Oltersdorf (Al), his brothers John Hunter and Charles Hunter, and his nephew Steve Hunter.

He is survived by his sons Donald James Hunter and David Hunter (Stacy), his brother James Hunter (Ellen), his sisters in law Betty Hunter and Janice Fay Hunter, his brother-in-law Steven Stiles (Linda), and four grandchildren: Dresden, Vincent, Frankie, and Bellamy. Also, by many nieces and nephews.

Don served proudly in the United States Air Force for more than 21 years, including time in Vietnam, as a logistics expert, retiring in 1985 as a Chief Master Sergeant (E9)After his military service, he became a licensed air conditioner technician, working in medical office maintenance until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, tinkerer, and Alabama football fan (Roll Tide!). Above all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 3:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL. CMSgt (Ret) Donald Edward Hunter will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors at a later date.
